this is a good thing...i'm not sure if i understood this earlier, but i realized a lot of things reading today in this week's posts...i also read today about the lake of fire...and about the three secrets of fatima which i blogged about before with a foto called a cowled prayer, this is a good thing! but i don't know if it's true either but...supposed it happened? who knows? more stories for myself to jot down if i have the strength..., it's a blessing in disguise this week, it's good to talk about things, anything you want! what you believe what you question what you want to hear from your readers about anything!...don't stop yourselves...you did the right thing and there's no turning back now

also i'm not sure if my favourite teacher forgets how many millions of people he's helped in this way too (maybe i'm the only one the writes this down)...about taking pictures and my stories...they are only my conclusions here on this site, no one else but my interpretation of the scene, or maybe people don't write down their deep dark feelings like we just did this week, we'll realize the things we like or don't like, agree to disagree, theory...and maybe it'll all figure itself out in the end

...and i am so glad we can write about things and not fight about things, i couldn't believe how not shy i was about writing today?...everyday i learn something new, that's why this is a good forum (stuck in customs)...it's painful to be a writer, artist...i think i know and understand that too, i don't know how long i can have this post here either...

...so here's part 2 of the sarah mclachlan, what? you didn't think we can rock over here on the west coast? oh come on...! check it out, the only sad thing is i wish i saw this live in concert because she definitely killed it in the end...ooooohhh it was soooo good! you are all lucky for going to her show and thank you for it's online!

there's cypress mountain in the distance, i'm at the foot of the fraser river, favourite hang out spot...NEW NOTE 8.8.2009 12.55pm EST. i see the lumber wood being rolled in everytime i come here...how ironic eh? i love my trees and then i think......about the poor people who have lost their jobs, thousands upon thousands, who support their family in the lumber mills....how do you find a happy medium? and then....i see all this wood just sitting here waiting to build a happy home for someone....so what's the happy medium? find another job in creating ways to build solar power hauses? plant more trees? save the forest? etc..... etc... end note i'm not sure...i'm just thinking to myself..on my blog again......end note 12.57pm est. ..last note...educate in sustainable living?...saving the ozone layer..end note 1.01pm est.

As is the case with every day here, I have also included a photo. This is of the indomitable Fitz Roy at sunrise buried deep in the Andes, in the hinterland between Argentina and Chile. To get this shot, it was none too easy! First, I "woke" up after a sleepless night in a two-man tent with Yuri. It was perhaps the worst night of my life and I've never had a panic attack before, but I honestly felt like I was pretty close. The smell combined with the pitch black, the snoring, the freezing cold, and the tiny tent was almost more than I could bear!

I woke up around 4:30 AM with -7 Celsius temperatures. It was bitter cold. I got dressed QUICKLY in the pitch black cold and then headed off with two of my Russian friends to begin scaling the mountain. They had lights on their hats; I did not. I walked between them, trying not to slip on the icy "trail" between the dodging shadows cast by their headlights. I'll never forget it for the rest of my life. We ascended 1,500 feet in less than 45 minutes so we could catch the pink rays of sunrise just as they hit the peaks.

Last, I have been interviewed about photography and more on the Pro Photo Show. It's a free podcast that you can listen to if you want to know more about the process or just hear me ramble on about stuff you may or may not find interesting!

I recently had contact with the director, Jim Yager, and he provided some background on this amazing work of art.

Jim: "It was inspired when I saw Na Lei Hulu I Ka Wekiu perform their choreography of this song at KQED for an event. It was one of those lightning strike moments when I saw the whole film produced in my mind's eye as they were dancing gracefully in front of a black curtain. It was just plain serendipity ..."

"We filmed Hula SF just a few weeks after 9/11 in 2001. We had been making production plans since mid-summer, and had delayed the production a couple of times as their was so much fear and uncertainty in the air here in the city. We finally spent two days with the dancers in all the locations you see in the video in early October, and I will never forget the response from those watching along the sidelines as we filmed. Tears of joy filled their eyes as Mr Bennett's song permeated the air, and the dancers swayed and told the story with their hands. It was a great emotional release for all of us, I think, and a reminder that their was still simple beauty and romance in a world that had been so tilted off its axis. It was one of those pure experiences I will never ever forget. I figured it would air for a few months on KQED and then be forgotten. Amazingly, it's been on their air nearly every day in the six years since then."

Patagonia In Autumn Leaves Worlds within Worlds

This animation was a part of gallery show called "Interior Landscapes" at the Lab in San Francisco. The show incorporated painting, fabric sculpture and installation, along with this animation. The imagery in this work is inspired by botany, internal organs, and the idea of worlds within worlds. A loose narrative springs from the confusion of scale; the idea of life existing within seeds, creating landscapes at levels so large or small that they are beyond our grasp. With every change in magnification, it seems like a new world is born.

The animation is a collaboration with Mark Edwards, Jeff Ray and Jim Coursey. I developed it in connection with the music, and we took several passes back and forth to find a balance between the two.

This is a short film I made while in Patagonia. It is a collection of things I found pretty and moving during 45 km of backpacking across the southernmost tip of Argentina. We were just a few glaciers away from Antarctica...it was rough and wild. I don't want to say anything more about it, but instead just let you enjoy it.
