I wish I could walk to dinner every night and find little places like this along the way. Since I carry my tripod and camera just about everywhere, I'd always be ready in case something like this pops up!

This was shot in Halle, Germany, just a short train ride from Leipzig. I love how these old churches are often lit with orange lights... I think it always makes them look nice against the blue dusky skies.

Setting up the tripod for these evening HDRs always allows you to set the ISO as low as possible, and in aperture priority mode, the shutter will stay open for a long time, letting those clouds drift by and drag light across the lens. It gives a nice feel to the shot and makes the church look even more timeless and solid.

A big thank you to all of you! Ever since I decided to bring art to the web, it has opened up a new world to me.

First, I thank you for the art YOU have uploaded to this techno-Salon of Flickr and the Internet. You all continue to inspire me and I am always humbled whenever I take a trip over to the top photos for the day. This could either depress or inspire me -- but I actively choose the latter!

Second, I thank you for your excellent comments, including the critical feedback that helps me see things from various perspectives. I don't always have time to respond, but I do read the comments. I know less than 1% of people actually take the time to do it; so thank you all that take the time. Even if you don't comment... that's okay! I hope you keep seeing enough to return for more.

I've been fortunate enough to travel and meet many great photographers around the world, who have helped and forced me to get better. There are so many more of you I look forward to meeting someday... It's a long life, and I plan on getting there! :)

Third, I thank you guys that have started coming to the daily blog at www.StuckInCustoms.com to enjoy the larger size photographs. These Flickr ones are much too small by default; don't you agree? It is finally here! She Took Her Own Picture is a selection of self portraits by 44 female self portrait artists on Flickr. The contributors, which include myself, hail from North and Latin America, Australia, the Caribbean, Oceania, and all over Europe including the UK and Ireland.

The idea for the collaboration came about about a year ago in a discussion in the Female Self Portrait Artists' Support Group, and since then, through trials and tribulations, team work, tweaking and engineering, the divine collection has finally been produced through a self-publisher online, and at the end of this week, will be available to the public!

The final result is impressive. Each artist has a double page spread, with a short piece of text. There are also 'feature pages' of certain pictures as voted by each of the other women (just one stage of the long and extensive process of producing this publication.) The book's design is of a remarkably high standard and encourages us to believe our mission of pursuing a commercial art publisher will be fruitful. At the moment it is not-for-profit, but when we do produce the book on a wider scale, we aim to donate a percentage of the profits to women's causes.

I've found that viewing these other women's self portraits in print offers a sensual pleasure that you seldom get when viewing pictures onscreen. Both images and text have inspired me - I have found that I can relate to something in every woman's text. The best thing is that there's nothing quite like this out there in the art book market. We truly have something special and you can get your hands on a copy - for a limited time only! To find out how, click onto my profile.

I had been hiking around Paris with way too much equipment for several hours. Whenever, I'm in photo-gatherin' mode, I am fairly tireless. I go from spot to spot like a Navy SEAL... but this day, I actually planned to have lunch at Chateau Rodin, the famous estate of the great French sculptor.

I had some food in my backpack that I had picked up at a small store a few hours before... a fresh baguette, a selection of cheeses, some fruit, and few truffles for dessert. I sat down at the edge of the fountain with my tripod up, aimed, and ready to go. I relaxed for a bit, listened to some Gotan Project on my iPod, and waited for the clouds to get just right.

Belshazzar's Feast is a painting by Rembrandt painted in about 1635. The source for this painting is the story of Belshazzar, in the Old Testament Book of Daniel (Daniel 5).

Belshazzar's Feast refers to an event described in the Book of Daniel, in which the Babylonian king Belshazzar profanes the sacred vessels of the enslaved Jews, and, as prophesized by the writing on the wall, is slain, leading to their freedom.

The writing on the wall (or sometimes 'handwriting on the wall') is an expression that suggests a portent of doom or misfortune. It originates in the Biblical book of Daniel—where supernatural writing fortells the demise of the Babylonian Empire, but it has come to have a wide usage in language and literature.

I think about all the sunsets I miss. I always seem to be out and about somewhere, noticing a great sunset and noticing that I am not even close to my camera and tripod. It's just unacceptable!

This day and evening I was in Yellowstone alone. I had just seen a grizzly bear and a black bear about 30 minutes before this shot, crossing the road in front of me. They went on their way and I was left in the middle of this area with just a few elk meandering a few hundred feet from me.
