Stevie Ray Vaughan Little Wing 5,137,113 views
Although "Texas Flood" has three verses of lyrics, the song is more of a prolonged guitar solo, allowing Vaughan to show off his characteristic electric blues style. During live shows, he would often play portions of this song behind his back, arousing an enthusiastic crowd response. Stylistically, "Texas Flood" is structured around the common three chord blues progression. Written and performed in the key of G (sounding F# because of Vaughan's tuning), it is in 12/8 time, or compound time[1], which gives it a "slow burning" feel that is common in Texas blues.

This is the famous Stevie Ray Vaughn statue in Austin. It's almost as famous as that little statue of mermaid in Copenhagen, Denmark (at least to Texans). It sits on the edge of Lady Bird Lake and I see it almost every day when I go on a run. In fact, I saw it today. We've had over a week of 100+ degree days here in Austin, and it's getting a little old. I'm not the young man I used to be when it comes to this sort of thing.
You can see a few cranes out there over downtown. They are in the middle of building two more high rise condos. I've been waiting patiently for them to finish so I can grab a shot of the new Austin skyline of 2010. 2010 - it's pretty close - can you believe it?

At $6.5 Billion, Facebook is Now Worth More than CBS by Adam Ostrow
courtesy of Mashable.com The Social Media GuideWhile that’s a far cry from the $15 billion that FacebookFacebook
was once valued at by way of a small Microsoft investment, it does finally put into perspective how big of a company that the social network has become. At $6.5 billion, Facebook is valued higher than CBS, Discovery Communications, and Macy’s.
For a more apples-to-apples comparison, it even places Facebook ahead of Salesforce.com, a publicly traded company that hit $1 billion in sales in its most recent fiscal year. Facebook’s revenue for 2009 is now expected to come in around $500 million according to recent comments by board member Marc Andreessen.
As for why the valuation has come down to $6.5 billion from $10 billion in only two months, The Times explains that the “previous investment … was for preferred shares.” Regardless, Facebook is clearly entering some remarkable territory, the scale of which has not been seen since the rise of GoogleGoogle
early this decade.

This bamboo forest is in Vancouver's Chinatown. The Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Gardens is an amazing oasis of calm and beauty in the Downtown East Side of Vancouver, which is is otherwise notorious internationally for its drug addiction, poverty, decay and general nastiness.

The other side of that picture is exemplified by this wonderful installation. Built from 100 containers of rock shipped from China, I like to think of this place as emblematic of the stoic individuals who live in the DTES who do not conform to the outside world's characterization of them. Poor folks who, for whatever reason, live in the 'hood and daily suffer the neglect and poor public policy decisions that have led to the veritable institutionalization this mothership of misery.

The gardens, to me, are like each otherwise unremarkable person's apartment here in DTES. Doing their best, the folk who weather the storm are putting up walls and carving beauty where they can midst the disaster zone.

It may be case that no one but I draws this parallel, but the calm, serenity and cool green peace of this bamboo forest is my dedication to these everyday souls who are waiting for better leadership, stronger resolve on the public policy side, and a better future for the East Hastings neighborhood.

True North Media House (”TNMH”) is a media collaboration campaign to encourage social coverage of the winter sports and cultural events during February-March 2010 in Vancouver, Canada while ensuring civil liberties (and having a good time).
We intend to create a space in downtown Vancouver to serve as a media resource centre with high-speed internet, audio and video production facilities, green screen and interview space, press conference space and workstations.
This project was launched by a group of media makers who covered the past several Olympic Games as un-accredited media. The organization has grown into a extensive group of volunteers from various industries and bringing diverse skills and motivations to the project. This could include you (keep reading).
To participate, please register at the Alternative Media Group and we’ll approve your request as soon as possible. There is also a True North Media House Wiki where the planning happens. Your account needs to be approved to get added to the site as a collaborator. Everyone can poke around. For meetings and working sessions, consider visiting the True North Media House Skype room and certainly follow the campaign’s activities on Twitter @TNMH.

I used to be the man in my home town
Until I started to lose my way
It all goes back to when I dropped out of school
Havin fun I was living the life
But now I got a problem with that little white rocks
